The Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) at The University of Texas at San Antonio is hosting the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition April 23-25, 2021 in San Antonio Texas. The winning teams from the 2021 Collegiate Cyber Defense Regional Competitions will converge in San Antonio to test their security skills against a host of adversaries ranging from troublesome employees, unreasonable management, and a professional Red Team in the annual National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. In the event that it is unsafe for us to be together in person the 2021 finals will be held virtually.
Unlike traditional "hack and defend" or "capture the flag" contests, this competition tests each team's ability to operate, secure, manage, and maintain a corporate network. This competition is the first to create, as closely as possible, a realistic corporate administration and security experience - giving the competitors a chance to compare their education and training against their peers and the real world challenges that await them.
The competition begins on a Friday and runs through Sunday ending with an award ceremony on Sunday afternoon. The CIAS is in need of volunteers to act as "White Team" judges for this event. White Team judges observe the competition, ensure team compliance with the rules, and handle simple tasks such as scoring scripted business events during the competition. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and help train our next generation of cyber defenders. Volunteers can serve for a single day, multiple days, or for the entire competition. To ease scheduling and the familiarization process we ask volunteers to cover a 3 hour block of time when possible.
